You may also see terms related to specific populations of students, such as:

• Students with interrupted formal education (SIFE)
• Students with limited and interrupted formal education (SLIFE)
• Long-term ELs (LTELs)

There are also terms related to instruction, such as:

• English as a Second Language (ESL)
• English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)
• English as a new language (ENL)
• English language development (ELD)
• Sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP)
